I JUST DIDN’T KNOW
How many times have we heard those words? Or how many times have we heard the phrase, ignorance of the law is no excuse? We in the horse world are probably the guiltiest of the guilty. We happily get on our horse and ride out on the road. Do we know what the laws are concerning our horse or our horse business? - ALMOST UNIVERSALLY WE DO NOT!!!
Just as we do not know the requirements for riding on some other
person’s land; or our rights, responsibilities or requirements when
we let someone else ride on our land. Most do not even know what the
requirements are when we transport our horse in a trailer on the
state’s highways.
If you do, then I and the rest of the Horse Council Board applaud
you. If you don’t, shame on you. Start doing your homework - use the
rainy days wisely to support your favorite vocation or avocation.
We have provided the applicable excerpts of these laws here on the
website. We need to thank the Equine Law and Horsemanship Safety
Website of the University of Texas for the lead ins to the various
laws.
